Visitors from Botswana and Cameroon
The Center for Global Genomics & Health Equity (GGHE) hosted and held productive discussions to help boost partnership with visitors form Botswana and Cameroon (Prof David Norris- Vice Chancellor and Prof Oathokwa Nkomazana-Dean Faculty of Medicine, University of Botswana AND Prof. Alfred K. NJAMNSHI, a longtime collaborator and President of Society of Cameroonian Neurologists, Chair Neurology & Neuroscience Training Programmes, and CEO and Founder, Brain Research Africa Initiative (BRAIN) and Dr. W. Yembe Njamnshi, Director of Operations - BRAIN Cameroon) during the weeks of 13th and 20th of March 2023. GGHE leadership, led by Prof. Sarah Tishkoff, discussed achievements, capacity building effort and planned activities with the visitors.
2021
The Tishkoff lab at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking research scientists with training and experience with “wet lab” molecular biology and/or genetics techniques. Ideally, they would also have experience doing field work and excellent interpersonal skills. The position would require preparing research and ethics applications in close partnership with African collaborators and government regulatory institutions. The successful candidate(s) would help oversee field work in partnership with African collaborators in remote regions of Africa.
The Cure Sickle Cell Initiative is an NHLBI-led collaborative research effort accelerating the development of genetic therapies for SCD. The NHLBI supports these and other innovative research activities for SCD and is seeking to foster improved awareness about SCD and address the associated myths and stigmas by launching the NHLBI Hope for Sickle Cell Disease Challenge. This Challenge incentivizes college and graduate students to develop innovative tools that build awareness of evidence-based information about SCD. This Challenge is open to college and graduate students to promote the field of implementation science to the next generation of researchers and offer mentoring and research training. This semester, 60-Second Lectures go digital as we seek to understand this difficult and unique moment in time. A wide variety of scholars and experts will shed light on the pandemic, including the science; the complex social, cultural, historical, and economic issues; and the response here on campus.
